Pretty terrible book. The two main characters are quite dull and the whole water theme was vastly annoying. I got REALLY tired of reading corny comments about water. Elias was a dead bore. His zen-like stoicism wasn't endearing; it just neutered his personality. There was virtually no suspense throughout the story. Had there been a juicy mystery to get involved in, it might have salvaged the book. Unfortunately, there just wasn't much of anything to this one. The romance between Elias and Charity was just as boring as they were. This is the first JAK book that I've read in quite a while because I often wind up being disappointed by them. The books she writes under this name are contemporary novels, and it really isn't her forte. Her historicals, written under the name Amanda Quick, are much more entertaining. Thankfully, I didn't pay much for this book.
An unusual plot of a burned out exec. Who moves to a small town to own a book store. The main male character is a little strange. There is also a cult hanging around in a campground waiting for a spaceship to come take them away.Murder happens, and there are a lot of characters that could be the murderer. There a is a parrot named “Crazy Otis†who the pier with shops was named, whose favorite sound is an evil “heh heh heh!â€While it is pretty bizarre,it was worth finishing. If you have many books to read, I wouldn’t put it at the top of your list. I prefer her regency mystery/romance books that she writes under the name of Amanda Quick. All of her writings have a few explicit sex scenes, which I could do without. She is an excellent writer, and her books are never boring.
I enjoyed Charity's directness and honesty. She and Elias were doing their casual bantering during their getting-to-know-each-other phase, but when asked a direct question, she was refreshingly honest, even when once her answer was "Let me get back to you on that." I enjoyed the stories surrounding Charity and Elias. They were both successful in the corporate world but left that world to run small shops in a small town. They cook gourmet meals for each other. Elias practices an esoteric eastern zen-type philosophy, based on meditation, contemplating water and martial arts. There were some witty lines that had me chuckling. The main focus of the book is solving the mystery of who killed someone and why.Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: four. Setting: current day Seattle and a small coastal town in northern Washington State called Whispering Waters Cove. Copyright: 1996. Genre: romantic mystery. For a list of my reviews of other books by this author, see my 4 star review of "Sizzle and Burn" posted 2-09-08.
This isn't your usual murder mystery by Jayne Ann Krentz. This story rather flows. Right from the beginning you know it's going to be different. As the story progresses you start seeing it come together. I really enjoyed the story and the romance
I always enjoy her characters. The male lead is mysterious but somehow likable. The female lead was a strong female lead after a little trouble in the beginning. There is an attraction from the onset. There is a cult waiting for the space ship to come. A cheated divorced woman and a young nubile woman who marries the cheated womans former husband. Fun read. Recommend.
I enjoyed this book so much.I have the audible version and the written version, I like to read along as I listen. The story line was very good, and I loved the characters, even Crazy Ottis!
I first read this book years ago. And when I got my kindle it was one of the first e-books I bought. You can't go wrong with a krentz book. But this one has always stuck with me . The female is strong which I love but the philosophy of the hero is wonderful. A must read.
This was soo much fun. The dialogue was like one of those old wise cracking Guy vs Gal movies. They are just funny together. Something like "The Thin Man" in that the kidding around and the teasing took place over the mystery story. The mystery just added to the fun.
