Awkward furniture salesperson Devin Julius meets her big crush: b-movie action star Michelle Rodri--I mean Renni Ramirez. Then, zombies.The book is a thinly disguised work of celebrity fanfiction, and this works both for and against it. It's a fun read, and there are a number times when I laughed out loud. Some lines are really memorable. The witty writing is the book's strong point.But around three-quarters of the way through the book, the plot takes some sharp, weird turns and rushes off to a too-quick end. The author hangs a few lampshades, but the overly blatant, out-of-nowhere plot devices and resolution is still jarring. The story would have benefited if things had been kept to gritty survival basics.Another problem is that Renni never develops as a character. She remains an idealized caricature--essentially, exactly what Devin wants her to be. Renni makes zombie-fighting *movies*. She doesn't do this real life. Yet Renni is totally cool and confident with a real, honest-to-god zombie outbreak. Renni *is* her movie persona.Instead of a real person, she comes across more as Devin's fantasy, or a Fight Club-esque alter-ego. In effect, what Devin wishes she was like. I don't know, but I think the story would have more interesting if this had been deconstructed, if Devin realized that the pedestal she put Renni on is maybe a little too high, a little unfair. There's some hints that Renni's had a bad breakup and maybe someone ditched her or something, but her personal life is a blank slate. She's just there for Devin's benefit. I feel there was a wasted opportunity here.It was fun read, however. Certainly worth it.By the way: Devin's girlfriend was horrible, and that Devin just let her walk all over her was grating. The book's last line made me laugh, though.
This was an enjoyable book from start to finsih. Though I would have liked to see more zombie fighting, Eat Your Heart Out delivers a fast paced, action packed, and sometimes houmorous story of survival. From dodging the the undead to avoiding the military, you won't be disappointed with this fun and gory novella. So George A. Romero, prepare to Eat Your Heart Out, because when you reach the last page, you''ll have the hunger for more stories from this up and coming talented writer.
Very fun book.
This is a fantastic, fun ride! Ingram's writing has style and substance. Hot lesbians, zombies, guns, blood and gore. What more could you ask for? This book should be a bestseller.
A fun, if unchallenging romp through the zombie survival genre. Devin is a protagonist with problems (not the least of which is a festering zombie bite), but over the course of the story the main character manages to confront and resolve - well some of them.Definitely worth a read.
Honestly what more could you ask for?? Cute story and cheesy but entertaining plot. Quick read and had me laughing
This afternoon I decided to read this book because of the "author's review" I read on Amazon. It made me laugh so I gave it go. It was fun, and amusing, and funny, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a zombie story, but not really. It's not a romance disguised as horror (yay!), but it does have a romantic element. It's a couple of messed up characters in a messed up situation doing the best they can. Did I mention it's fun? Yes? Well, I thought it was and I'm glad I gave it a shot.
Is it a zombie book with lesbians or a lesbian fiction book with zombies? It doesn't matter because it IS a great read! Quick & funny with just the right amount of romance & sex. A really fun fantastical journey! Hope to see more from the author.
