We pulled our daughter out of public school mid-way through 6th grade. We began homeschooling instead. One of the reasons we chose this route was because the math instruction was terrible. The confusing methods used in common core had caused great damage to our daughter's math ability and confidence.I made some progress teaching her math from some decent textbooks, but what she really needed was a lot more practice. This workbook fits the bill well!The problems are well-designed so that they work out elegantly without a lot of "grunt work." Fun illustrations of planets, rockets, aliens, and other astronomical phenomenon on every page are entertaining to kids and adults alike.The problems are also fun. I have a math education that includes seven college-level courses (four levels of calculus, differential equations, matrices & linear algebra, etc.), and still I have to slow down and think for a minute about how to best approach some of these problems, since they ask atypical questions.My daughter and I sit down together and I let her work the problems, asking me for clarification when she gets stuck. At first she lacked confidence and asked for help on every single problem. But after doing the first problem set, she began to work most of them on her own, and even admitted that some of them were fun!I cannot praise this workbook enough, and only wish that there were more workbooks written like this.
This book packs tremendous amount of math. Yes, it should easily cover several grades. It contains no fluff: they give you a problem, then the solution/explanation. The format seems OK ... I would have preferred a larger text and fewer problems per page. Before giving it to my kid, I looked at several problems (and their solutions). It works. Have you kid do a dozen a day, and you got the next Nobel laureate in math or physics! Absolutely worth every dollar. There is so much overpriced junk sold nowadays - this is NOT! I am a fan of this publisher. Will be looking into other books by them, hopefully covering the whole range of subjects and grades. Thank you!
I highly recommend this book! I love using this book as part of our homeschooling curriculum. It has made a huge difference, and I am so glad I found it! It reduces the stress in our household with regards to math homework. The book does a great job explaining and breaking down each and every subject you may see in middle school math. It's a great supplemental material for students who may need a little extra help. Wish I had this when I was in junior high!
I got this one for my son. when he wants to make extra money that's what is he will have to do)).this one looks like it got everything we need: the explanations, the practice and the answers). And the quality of the paper is good.
I like this workbook a lot as it provides my 7th graded with comprehensive practice questions that cover topics they in school to add to the practice at home and improve comprehension. I highly recommend.
This is a great book if you have kids that need extra curriculum in math! My son is in 5th grade right now, but studies math above his grade level. I found this workbook very helpful for some extra homework.First of all, I like the quality of the book: even though it’s a paperback, the cover looks and feels sturdy enough to last for a while. Same thing with pages, very nice quality.Second, I absolutely love how the book is organized: there are several problems in each topic, and they are differentiated by the level of difficulty. So one can easily choose an assignment that suits your kid the best at the moment. Another thing that made me happy was that answers are clearly explained.Overall, Every Day Math is a great workbook. I highly recommend it to those of you whose child needs extra challenge in math.
I have been teaching SAT prep for three decades. Unfortunately, I have noticed in the last few years many students do not have the math knowledge they need to take the SAT. Of, course they should have mastered the topics in this book during middle school, but many of them have not. So if you are a tutor or a parent, have the student do the 19 problems in each section. If he only misses one or two, you consider that section mastered. If he misses more, you need to give him more problems on this topic. But space the additional problems out, allowing several days in between. Brian Hunter, the author, gives you his email in the book so just email him, and he will email you printable PDF worksheets with 800 additional problems—-very generous! The problems are not routine, mundane problems but are very creative ones, similar to the ones on the SAT. Obviously, this is only a start. The student will need some more advanced problems, which you can find in other books, but he needs to get the basics down pat first. Immediately after the problems in each section, Brian has written a very clear explanation of how to do each problem step-by-step. This book is a must for all middle AND high school students.
What is good about this book you may ask? 1000+ practice questions and explanations to it. Book divided into 4 major topics, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Probability & Statistics. Each big topic has its smaller topics. I have just received it and like how it is structured. Easy to use and navigate. For sure it will be helpful in several grades. Great job.
